ThreekeyissuestounderstandChinesepeople'ssatisfaction:Harvardstuday_GuangmingOnlineInJuly,2020,AshCenterforDemocraticGovernanceandInnovationofHarvardUniversityissuedareportcalledUnderstandingCPCResilience:SurveyingChinesePublicOpinionThroughTime.Accordingtothereport,Chinesecitizensatisfactionwithgovernmenthadincreasedvirtuallyacrosstheboardsince2003.By2016,people'ssatisfactionlevelofthegovernmenthadreached93.1%.Thereportshowsthatbetween2005and2011,surveyre-spondentsreportedlargeincreasesinaccesstoseveraldifferentinsuranceandsocialwelfareprograms.Forexample,theproportionofruralvillagerscoveredbybasicmedicalinsurancerosefrom32%in2005to82.8%in2011,whiletheproportionwithbasicemployeepensionplansrosefrom36.8%to71.3%.ThesefindingssuggestthattheChinesegovernmentisincreasinglyeffectiveatdeliveringbasichealthcare,welfare,andotherpublicservicestodisadvantagedpopulations.In2016,71.5%ofrespondentsapprovedofgovernmenteffortstofightcorruption.Likewise,theproportionofcitizenswhoviewedChinesegovernmentofficialsasgenerally"clean"increasedto44.2%in2015,and65.3%in2016.By2016themajorityofrespondentsfeltthatgovernmenteffortstocontrolcorruptionwerehavinganeffectandthatthingsweremovingintherightdirection.Whilethe2016surveyrevealsthatChinesecitizensaremostconcernedaboutairpollution,with34%respondentsnamingitasthemostimportantenvironmentalissue,Chinesecitizensaregenerallyoptimisticlookingfiveyearsahead-43%expecttheirlocalairqualitytogetbetter.Editor:
