AresearchershowstheluminousmechanismofnewsmartfiberatDonghuaUniversityinShanghai,eastChina,inMarch2024.(DonghuaUniversity/HandoutviaXinhua)SHANGHAI,April7(Xinhua)--AChineseresearchteamhasdevelopedanewtypeofsmartfiberthatcanemitlightandgenerateelectricitywithoutbeingpluggedin.Thefiberintegratesfunctionsincludingwirelessenergycollection,informationperceptionandtransmission,andcanbemadeintotextilesthatcanrealizehuman-computerinteractionfunctionssuchasluminousdisplayandtouchcontrolwithoutchipsandbatteries.Thestudy,recentlypublishedinthejournalScience,isexpectedtochangethewaypeopleinteractwiththeenvironmentandbetweenpeople,andisofgreatsignificancefortheapplicationofsmarttextiles.Smartwearabledeviceshavebecomepartofdailylifeandplayanimportantroleinhealthmonitoring,telemedicine,human-computerinteractionandotherfields.Comparedwithtraditionalrigidsemiconductorcomponentsorflexiblethinfilmdevices,electronictextilesmadeofsmartfibersaremorebreathableandsofter.However,thecurrentdevelopmentofsmartfibersusescomplexmulti-moduleintegration,whichincreasesthevolume,weightandrigidityoftextiles.AresearchteamfromDonghuaUniversity'sCollegeofMaterialsScienceandEngineeringaccidentallydiscoveredthatfibersemittedlightinaradiofieldduringanexperiment.Basedonthefindings,theteamdevelopedanewtypeofsmartfiberthatuseselectromagneticenergyasawirelessdrivingforce.Thisnewtypeoffiberisfeaturedwithcost-effectiverawmaterialsandmatureprocessingtechnology,saidYangWeifeng,amemberoftheresearchteam.Itcanrealizefabricdisplay,wirelessinstructiontransmissionandotherfunctionswithoutusingchipsandbatteries.Clothesmadeofthenewfiberscanbeinteractiveandluminous,andcanalsoremotelycontrolelectronicproductswirelesslybygeneratinguniquesignalsfordifferentposturesofusers,saidHouChengyi,aresearcheratDonghuaUniversity.Theresearchteamsaidthattheywillfurtherstudyhowtomakethenewfibercollectenergyfromspacemoreeffectivelytodevelopmorefunctionsincludingdisplay,deformation,andcomputing.■Editor:DisclaimerTheviewsandopinionsexpressedinthisarticlearethoseoftheauthor's,GMW.cnmakesnorepresentationsastoaccuracy,suitability,orvalidityofanyinformationonthissiteandwillnotbeliableforanyerrors,omissions,ordelaysinthisinformation.
